After the sad passing of its longstanding Chair, Ken Hicks, it’s just over a year since we reported on the appointment of his successor, Malcolm R Greenberry, to this key role at the Ruddington & District Branch of the Royal British Legion.
The UK’s leading Armed Forces charity has a network of branches and clubs all over the country and overseas for its members to engage and participate in social, fundraising and welfare activities. Here in Ruddington they also help to organise the well-attended annual Remembrance Services at the War Memorial and ensure that our village’s ex-Service community have a voice for their concerns to be brought to the public eye.
However, Mr Greenberry has now launched an urgent appeal for new members to come forward after the Ruddington & District Branch failed to form a committee at their AGM in December. If more active members cannot be found straight away, there’s a very real danger our village branch could fold.
A ‘Special General Meeting’ has been organised at the start of next month to try to select a working committee to keep it viable. They say membership is open to everyone who has an interest in the objectives of the Royal British Legion and wish to help and support those who have served and their families. They welcome men and women of all ages, whether you have served in the Armed Forces or not.
The ‘Special General Meeting’ is being held at 8pm on Thursday 1st February at 8pm in St Peter’s Rooms to allow you to have your say and help save our Ruddington branch. It’s hoped as many villagers will attend as possible.
